About Muhammad Ali

Muhammad Ali was an American professional boxer and cultural icon, widely regarded as one of the greatest boxers of all time. Born Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr. on January 17, 1942, in Louisville, Kentucky. He began boxing at the age of 12 and quickly rose to prominence, winning a gold medal in the light heavyweight division at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome.

Ali turned professional in 1960 and soon became known for his unorthodox fighting style, lightning-fast footwork, and brash personality. He won his first world heavyweight championship in 1964, defeating Sonny Liston in a major upset. He went on to defend his title successfully multiple times, including against legendary fighters such as George Foreman, Joe Frazier, and Ken Norton.

In addition to his boxing achievements, Ali was known for his political activism and his opposition to the Vietnam War. He refused to be drafted into the military on religious and moral grounds, stating that he was a conscientious objector. This led to his suspension from boxing and a long legal battle, which was eventually resolved in his favour by the Supreme Court.

Throughout his career, Ali was known for his wit, charisma, and entertaining pre-fight antics, which helped him become one of the most recognised athletes in the world. He retired from boxing in 1981 with a record of 56 wins, 5 losses, and 37 knockouts. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1990.

Ali passed away on June 3, 2016, at the age of 74, but his legacy continues to inspire people around the world. He is widely regarded as a symbol of black pride, resistance, and resilience, and his impact on sports, culture, and politics is undeniable.
